It’s with great pleasure that we can now announce that Powerlite has ventured into pastures new (albeit chilly ones) by teaming up with Based in Randaberg (near Stavanger) in Norway, this specialist online shop supplies parts for older model Jaguars and Daimlers.

Managing Director, Thore Hauptmann, takes pride in the company’s excellent customer service, competitive pricing and the ability to supply, not just to Norwegian customers, but to the whole of Scandinavia. If they don’t have the part in stock, they will do their utmost to source one.

The company name is a nod to Sir William Lyons, founder of the Jaguar company and their strapline “Seriose grieir - for moro skyld” which translates to “Serious stuff - for fun” reflects the company’s desire to help enthusiasts enjoy their interest in these iconic cars.

Michael Hadley, Powerlite’s MD, is delighted to welcome as a specialist distributor, and looks forward to a long and successful partnership.

Specialist Auto Electrician joins the team - 22 Nov 2019

Specialist Auto Electrician joins the team

Powerlite is pleased to announce that GW Auto Electrics is now an official distributor for our products.

Based just outside Exeter in Devon, the company was founded in early 2018 by Giles Wassall. Giles is a specialist mobile auto electrician covering the south west of England and South Wales, working his magic to repair wiring, alternators, starters, dynamos and magnetos on site. Whilst specialising in classic and vintage vehicles, his versatility means he also works on motorbikes, plant machinery and most recently, a classic David Brown Cropmaster Tractor!

Giles has always had an interest in everything mechanical, growing up on farms surrounded by tractors, and rebuilding his first engine at the age of 14. His passion for motorbikes took off when he bought one to restore as soon he was of an age not to be stopped! After finishing his college training in motor vehicle engineering and electrics, his appetite for weird and wacky projects encouraged him to set up as a sole trader. In his spare time, Giles is restoring his A40 Farina and if that’s not enough, he is also busy working on his Suzuki SP400 classic motorbike.

Powerlite MD, Michael Hadley, and Sales & Marketing Manager, Rob Manger, met up with Giles at the recent Classic Motor Show at the NEC Birmingham (pictured), and are excited to be teaming up for this new venture.

Giles can be contacted on 07582 752048, or visit his website here:

Powerlite “Multi-Mount” Alternator RAC068 - the number one choice of the top racing teams in the UK - 20 Sep 2019

Powerlite “Multi-Mount” Alternator RAC068 - the number one choice of the top racing teams in the UK

Built using the base unit of a Denso alternator and weighing in at a miniscule 3.0 kg, the unique Powerlite "multi-mount" alternator kicks out 50 amps and has been designed by us to the exact pattern and size of a traditional Lucas ACR type alternator.

As with all of our Powerlite units, the “multi-mount” alternator has been designed, tested and built by skilled auto electricians at our plant in the UK. Built to withstand vibration and engine harmonics, this unit will deliver maximum performance with minimum efficiency. We only use OE rated components, including the best quality regulators and, of course, NSK C3 Auto Grade bearings.

With an easily adjustable adaptor plate, the alternator can be mounted on either side of an engine, so it’s suitable for Ford BDA, Pinto, X - Flow and A series engines such as A + B series BMC and BL types, along with Rover V8. It’s compact, lightweight design, coupled with twin rotor fans to draw the air through the unit for extra cooling, make it perfect for race engines where space is a premium.

A bigger 100mm pulley version is also available for situations where you need to slow the unit down, and full fitting kits for dynamo to alternator conversions.

Powerlite featured in Classic Car Weekly

We were delighted to be featured in Classic Car Weekly (11 September 2019) having helped John Lakey solve some of the many issues he has encountered during his Austin A60 Cambridge restoration project.

John has converted this classic to run a five-bearing MGB engine, which doesn’t come without its problems. He came along to our workshops in Brierley Hill and was impressed by the set-up, including the amount of stock carried plus the bespoke manufacturing facilities.

We were pleased to be of assistance, supplying him with a RAC184MS starter, in addition to a high-capacity MGB alternator. Glad to be of help John.

Powerlite Slimline Starter Motors - the answer to a tight fit - 12 Sep 2019

Powerlite Slimline Starter Motors - the answer to a tight fit

Perhaps the biggest problem facing any car builder is space - very often “standard” component parts are simply too big or too bulky to fit into the tight space left over once you’ve added the chassis, steering column or gear linkage.

To combat this, we have invented a superb range of high torque starter motors that are not only versatile and easy to fit, but deliver a huge amount of cranking power. Powerlite’s “Slimline” range of high torque starters are a plug and play answer to fitting and starting problems on a multitude of engines.

Typically weighing in at a skinny 3.0 kg, all units have been designed, tested and built by skilled auto electricians at our plant in Brierley Hill. The basic design of the Slimline unit mirrors a pattern used on Honda engines, where a powerful 1.6 kW motor has been constructed using an epicyclic gear box for extra oomph when the key is turned. They contain an in-built solenoid, teeth patterns have been matched to originals and boss sizes mimic the footprint of the engine aperture for easy fitting.

If that wasn’t enough, we have also added a PCD of cap screw holes so the front bracket can be easily removed and then “clocked” into the best position to avoid pesky things like engine blocks and exhaust manifolds.

A broad range of fitments include all A Series engines, Ford Pinto, X Flow and Pre X Flow, and special “made-to-measure” units are available on demand.

Half-century celebrations for the classic Ford Capri - 5 Sep 2019

Half-century celebrations for the classic Ford Capri

When Ford launched the Mk I Capri in 1969, with one of the most famous automotive one-liners ever, “Ford Capri: The Car You Always Promised Yourself”, they were hoping to bring a touch of Mustang mystique to British shores. Instantly a hit with UK drivers, affordable with a variety of engine sizes, the car went on to become a favourite world-wide.

The Mk II followed in 1974, the first Ford to feature a hatchback, succeeded by the many guises of Mk III, until the final car rolled off the production line in December 1986 at the Ford factory in Cologne. In total 1,886,647 Capris had been produced, with more than 1 million of these being the Mk I due to its popularity in Australia and North America.

50 years on this classic remains a favourite with both collectors and racetrack enthusiasts. And like any classic car, Capris need specialist replacement parts. Powerlite is the leading manufacturer and supplier of high-performance rotating electrics for classic, performance, competition and kit cars.

We offer direct replacement starter motors for all Capris, from the smaller Kent engined crossflow cars, Pinto motors, and through to the larger Essex and Cologne units including high performance and race versions. Our strong, powerful offset gear-reduced starter motors deliver huge cranking torque through a set of steel internal gears. Lightweight, compact and durable, these units start the engine faster with immense power, whilst drawing less current from the battery.

Alternatively, we can supply slimline starter motors, deceptively powerful lightweight units featuring an epicyclic gear box to deliver extra power. Easy to fit, this starter delivers maximum torque whilst again using less battery power. Call us or visit our website to find the correct starter for your car.

Powerlite also have an alternator ‘on the shelf’ to suit every Capri for every situation, from original OE type units, to compact, lightweight high-performance race specification fitments.

Every Powerlite unit has been designed, tested and manufactured to the highest possible standards, using over 40 years of auto electrical experience, on site at our Brierley Hill base in the West Midlands. In addition, we are the only UK company to offer a full re-manufacturing service for classic starter motors, alternators and dynamos.

50 years of the Ford Capri deserves celebrating by buying the best British parts available.

If you would like more information on products then take a look at, drop an email to, or speak to a member of the Powerlite Team on 01384 261984.
