NEC Classic Motor Show - come and say hello!

This November sees the 35th anniversary of the Classic Motor Show and we're so excited at being part of it once again. This is without doubt the biggest and best classic car show anywhere in the UK, one which any bona fide enthusiast, owner or collector wouldn't want to miss.

The Powerlite Team will be there every day on Stand 1-268 - Michael, Rob, Jason, Jules and Daz will give you a big Black Country welcome (well, Rob's been working hard on his Brummy accent!). Come and grab a goodie-bag - we love spotting them as we go round the show, so you may well appear in our photo gallery. We'll be taking along a range of our units, giving advice and answering any queries you may have. You'll be able to purchase on the day, or we can arrange speedy delivery, postage-free, as soon as we're back at our headquarters.

Across all 7 Halls of the NEC there's so much to see - specialist trade stands (that's us), autojumble, car clubs, dealers, demonstrations, auctions, talks from motoring celebs, the list goes on... On Saturday, Hall 6 will see classic and vintage vehicles battling it out as part of this 750-mile long rally, which starts in Torquay and ends in Chester.

Powerlite “Multi-Mount” Alternator RAC068 - the number one choice of the top racing teams in the UK

Built using the base unit of a Denso alternator and weighing in at a miniscule 3.0 kg, the unique Powerlite "multi-mount" alternator kicks out 50 amps and has been designed by us to the exact pattern and size of a traditional Lucas ACR type alternator.

As with all of our Powerlite units, the “multi-mount” alternator has been designed, tested and built by skilled auto electricians at our plant in the UK. Built to withstand vibration and engine harmonics, this unit will deliver maximum performance with minimum efficiency. We only use OE rated components, including the best quality regulators and, of course, NSK C3 Auto Grade bearings.

With an easily adjustable adaptor plate, the alternator can be mounted on either side of an engine, so it’s suitable for Ford BDA, Pinto, X - Flow and A series engines such as A + B series BMC and BL types, along with Rover V8. It’s compact, lightweight design, coupled with twin rotor fans to draw the air through the unit for extra cooling, make it perfect for race engines where space is a premium.

A bigger 100mm pulley version is also available for situations where you need to slow the unit down, and full fitting kits for dynamo to alternator conversions.

Powerlite featured in Classic Car Weekly

We were delighted to be featured in Classic Car Weekly (11 September 2019) having helped John Lakey solve some of the many issues he has encountered during his Austin A60 Cambridge restoration project.

John has converted this classic to run a five-bearing MGB engine, which doesn’t come without its problems. He came along to our workshops in Brierley Hill and was impressed by the set-up, including the amount of stock carried plus the bespoke manufacturing facilities.

We were pleased to be of assistance, supplying him with a RAC184MS starter, in addition to a high-capacity MGB alternator. Glad to be of help John.

Powerlite Slimline Starter Motors - the answer to a tight fit

Perhaps the biggest problem facing any car builder is space - very often “standard” component parts are simply too big or too bulky to fit into the tight space left over once you’ve added the chassis, steering column or gear linkage.

To combat this, we have invented a superb range of high torque starter motors that are not only versatile and easy to fit, but deliver a huge amount of cranking power. Powerlite’s “Slimline” range of high torque starters are a plug and play answer to fitting and starting problems on a multitude of engines.

Typically weighing in at a skinny 3.0 kg, all units have been designed, tested and built by skilled auto electricians at our plant in Brierley Hill. The basic design of the Slimline unit mirrors a pattern used on Honda engines, where a powerful 1.6 kW motor has been constructed using an epicyclic gear box for extra oomph when the key is turned. They contain an in-built solenoid, teeth patterns have been matched to originals and boss sizes mimic the footprint of the engine aperture for easy fitting.

If that wasn’t enough, we have also added a PCD of cap screw holes so the front bracket can be easily removed and then “clocked” into the best position to avoid pesky things like engine blocks and exhaust manifolds.

A broad range of fitments include all A Series engines, Ford Pinto, X Flow and Pre X Flow, and special “made-to-measure” units are available on demand.

Half-century celebrations for the classic Ford Capri

When Ford launched the Mk I Capri in 1969, with one of the most famous automotive one-liners ever, “Ford Capri: The Car You Always Promised Yourself”, they were hoping to bring a touch of Mustang mystique to British shores. Instantly a hit with UK drivers, affordable with a variety of engine sizes, the car went on to become a favourite world-wide.

The Mk II followed in 1974, the first Ford to feature a hatchback, succeeded by the many guises of Mk III, until the final car rolled off the production line in December 1986 at the Ford factory in Cologne. In total 1,886,647 Capris had been produced, with more than 1 million of these being the Mk I due to its popularity in Australia and North America.

Powerlite American Road Trip - Sunny Skies & Cool Cars

California’s Monterey Car Week 2019 certainly lived up to its reputation for being the place in the USA to see classic and performance cars.

Powerlite kicked off their West Coast adventure by visiting classic car clubs, classic and performance car parts suppliers, and then moved on to exhibiting at two of the stand-out shows of the week.

Werks Reunion provided the chance to meet hundreds of Porsche owners and enthusiasts, whilst drooling over the sheer beauty of the cars in attendance.  The next day at Laguna Seca Raceway, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion saw 550 authenticated sports cars there for on-track racing at the home of the famous Corkscrew, but most importantly showing off!

It was great to meet so many people who visited the stands, and judging by the amount of Powerlite bags we spotted being carried, people were genuinely impressed by our products.  Special thanks go to the Powerlite Team who arranged transportation of our products from the UK to Salinas, California - which arrived within 14 minutes of the estimated delivery time.  Not bad going!
