Powerlite teams up with the HCVA
We are immensely proud to be part of the newly formed Historic & Classic Vehicles Alliance a new, powerful voice for everyone who has an interest in protecting the future of classic and historic vehicles.
The HCVA have a simple message – to build a broad base of membership from across the industry, owners and the public, creating a launching pad to engage decision makers and address those in power to ensure there is a viable future for all.
The figures for our industry are mind boggling – there are over 3 million classic cars still on the road and the industry generates more than £18 billion per year whilst employing over 113,000 people.
And we need to celebrate what we are good at. At a time of national identity crisis, let’s recognise the skills that we have in the industry, the legacy of the cars that we have built and the innovation that once made Great Britain the world leader in car design and production.
Powerlite were asked to be involved due to our longstanding involvement in classic rotating electrics – we have been remanufacturing since the early 1970’s and are now the biggest supplier of classic car starters, alternators and dynamos in the UK.
We are also home to the Powerlite range of upgraded units, designed specifically to improve and enhance the experience of classic motoring.
For more information, and to see what the aims are to protect and our industry, please see the HCVA website at www.hcva.co.uk

A day in the life of the Vintage Wireman can never be described as ordinary or predictable!
When we asked Rory what he was currently working on, he had a pre-war Bentley, a Wolseley, a Triumph TR4 and a 1970s Mercedes lined up for that day.
Rory Oliver-Hall is the founder of The Vintage Wireman and has been fascinated by engines and electronics from childhood - as he puts it, he’s always had a passion for tinkering. His background includes a graduate training scheme with Rover, impressively joining the Stewart F1 Team working on electronics and control systems, and beyond that into industry sectors covering automotive, aerospace, rail and power.

But his passion for vintage cars led him to setting up his own workshop in the heart of the Cotswolds, which gives him excellent access to customers in the Midlands, Wales and the south.
Whilst he specialises in re-wiring, restoration and installation for veteran, vintage pre-war and classic vehicles, there’s pretty much nothing that Rory won’t turn his hand to. He says some of the more unusual projects have included a 1960s Trojan Bubble Car and a 1930s Leyland Lioness Fire Engine (pictured above), repaired in readiness for sale by the owner.
Besides working on fantastic classics owned by his customers, Rory also has a passion for collecting. He admits to having eighteen in his stash, but you can be sure he’s always on the look out for additions. His favourite for taking out on sunny days has got to be his fabulous blue Lotus Elise - and why wouldn’t it be!

We are delighted to welcome The Vintage Wireman as a specialist distributor for the Powerlite range of products and look forward to a long and successful partnership.

Always at the forefront of new ideas to improve starting and charging technology, Powerlite have invented a new style of alternator pulley aimed to combat the issues of excessive whip on fan belts - a frustrating and potentially costly problem.
When fitted to our race-proven alternators, the Floating Pulley centralises the fan belt, reduces tension and guides the belt smoothly around the pulley, even under extreme circumstances such as an over-rev or a missed gear.
Powerlite race alternators are not only extremely light at just 3 kilos but have proven time and again to be the ultimate in race technology. Fitted with the very best quality NSK bearings and built to last right here in the UK by skilled auto electricians, they are widely used by the best race teams in the country and have claimed wins in the most prestigious events, including the Goodwood Revival and Silverstone Classic.
The Floating Pulley and its improvements in alternator race technology has been developed with the team at Swiftune and we are proud to be associated with such a successful and innovative company in this exciting new development.

We love getting feedback, but when it comes via one of our select fitting centres it’s even better, showing our chosen partner workshops offer great service alongside our great products.
Working on a 1970 Jaguar E-type series II 4.2, Acespeed Historic Motorsport was eager to feedback the positive comments it received from the classic’s owner, Andy Conreen.

After replacing the existing starter motor with a Powerlite unit, Andy ‘Ace’ Harrison was told: “It spins the engine over twice as fast, is about the half the weight of the original and due to its compact size is so much easier to install.”
The starter motor used was a RAC303 - a strong, off-set, gear-reduced unit, which delivers huge cranking torque through a set of steel internal gears. It’s lightweight, compact and durable, starting the engine faster with immense power, whilst drawing less current from the battery.

Acespeed, based in Shipley, West Yorkshire, restore and prepare historic motor cars for road, rally, track days and race championships. Full details can be found at www.acespeed.co.uk.
